Downtown Music announces publishing and distribution deal with The Hoosiers

August 9th, 2023 – Downtown Music today announces that acclaimed British pop-rock band, The Hoosiers have signed a global music publishing agreement with Downtown Music Publishing (DMP) and a wide-ranging deal with Downtown-owned distributor, FUGA, via their imprint, Crab Race Ltd.

Formed in 2003, The band went on to see substantial success with their multi-platinum debut album ‘The Trick to Life’ which, boosted by Top 5 singles, ‘Worried About Ray’ and ‘Goodbye Mr. A’, topped the UK album charts in 2007. Following the Top 10 charting album, ‘The Illusion of Safety’ and a prolific run of form culminating in 2019’s ‘Greatest Hits’ and the 15th Anniversary edition of ‘The Trick to Life’ released in 2022, The Hoosiers return with the widely anticipated album ‘Confidence’, due for release in September 2023.

Led by Pieter van Rijn since its formation in August 2022, Downtown Music – the business and professional services division under Downtown Music Holdings – has combined technology with an extensive range of music services under three core pillars – Publishing, Artist & Label Services, and Distribution. This transformation has presented Downtown’s substantial client base with a streamlined approach to multi-rights deals, simplifying the sharing of authorized data, expediting the collection process, and maximizing income.

Through the band’s partnership with FUGA, The Hoosiers will benefit from the distributor’s award-nominated offering, comprising worldwide digital and physical distribution, sync, and marketing services. Alongside this, their publishing administration and creative services deal with Downtown Music Publishing will elevate their expansive catalog and future releases.

Ed Lewis, Nightfly Management and Adam Daly, VRTU Music  added, “We are thrilled to partner with such forward-thinking teams at both Downtown Music Publishing and FUGA. It felt like the right home for the band from the very start of our conversations. After selling in excess of a million records across their career, The Hoosiers have created their strongest album after 8 years away from the studio and together we are confident that together we can deliver on an ambitious new chapter for the band.”

Jedd Katrancha, Chief Commercial Officer, Downtown Music Publishing said this, “The Hoosiers have an excellent back catalog of much-loved hits and we’re excited to start the process of revisiting their past releases and bringing them to new audiences while finding new and creative ways to support their upcoming releases.”

“It is a pleasure to welcome the Nightfly Management and VRTU Music teams to our fold in anticipation of the release of The Hoosiers new album, ‘Confidence’.  FUGA’s global team & services, with a truly local approach, is a compliment to the new campaign.” added Liz Northeast, SVP EMEA, FUGA

Downtown’s pioneering approach to unified rights management and music services led to the Estate of Miles Davis expanding their partnership with Downtown, adding Neighbouring Rights to sit alongside the Jazz legend’s comprehensive publishing deal, while iconic indie label Polyvinyl recently partnered with both FUGA and Downtown’s Neighbouring Rights divisions.

“We’re proud to offer a home to The Hoosiers, their extensive catalog of much loved hits and their exciting new record,” said Pieter van Rijn.By simplifying and unifying all aspects of multi-rights management, Downtown is perfectly positioned to be the platform on which the music industry does business.”

The Hoosiers begin a seven-date UK headline tour supporting the release of ‘Confidence’ on September 28, 2023, ending at London’s KOKO on October 5th.
