Skybound Entertainment, the creator-led, multiplatform entertainment company behind mega-hit franchises The Walking Dead, Invincible, and Impact Winter, today introduced a new spoke to its “Wheel of Awesome” content model – Skybound Music.
The division has been in stealth mode since early 2022 as the team worked to finalize a partnership deal with leading B2B music distributor, FUGA and Downtown Music Publishing, both companies owned by Downtown Music Holdings. The partnership with FUGA will provide the new music label with digital distribution and a breadth of marketing services, with Downtown Music Publishing across global administration for Skybound’s current and future catalog, allowing the company to monetize the masters and songwriting rights Skybound Music has obtained from its original productions.
Skybound Music is led by industry veterans Alex Kelman, Kevin Wolff, and Taylor Wahl, who collectively have expertise in every facet of the business. Musical companions for all projects across the Skybound universe are slated for 2024 and beyond, with promises of delivering iconic tracks, scores, and albums from a wide variety of talented artists across several genres.
“It became clear after having known DA [David Alpert] for many years that the one missing piece to Skybound’s content model was Music. We’re honored to have partnered with such an incredible team of creative, forward-thinking, and highly intelligent people,” said Alex Kelman, Co-Founder & Managing Partner, Skybound Music.
“The partnership between Skybound, Downtown Music Publishing, and FUGA is an incredibly organic fit. We’re bringing together entertainment companies that are on the cutting edge of technology, IP, distribution, publishing, film, tv, music, literature, video games, and so much more. The collaboration opportunities are endless,” adds Kevin Wolff, Co-Founder & Managing Partner, Skybound Music.
Skybound Music already has one successful partner under its belt producing Audible Original Impact Winter’s emotional and eerie soundtracks for Seasons 1 & 2. Both albums were met with widespread acclaim, not just for the narrative but for the accompanying soundscapes that enriched the storytelling experience. Its latest album, which dropped August 11, 2023, included evocative covers of iconic hits “California Dreamin’” by The Mamas & The Papas, covered by Lost Under Heaven, and a poignant rendition of the Pixies’ “Where is My Mind?” by CLOVES.
“We’re excited to be partnering with the multifaceted Skybound Entertainment in its new music venture, and to be providing its dynamic scope of Artists and IP with FUGA’s global distribution and marketing services, with a shared mission to connect Skybound Music’s creative content to audiences,” said Sarah Landy, SVP Americas for FUGA.
Jedd Katrancha, CCO of Downtown Music Publishing comments, “Skybound Entertainment is a leader in building global franchises that connect with fans across the world. Downtown Music Publishing is proud to be the chosen partnership for the Skybound Music arm and we look forward to working closely with the team to elevate and help monetize its creator’s musical works.”
Skybound Entertainment’s expansion into the music domain underscores its dedication to elevating auditory storytelling and the complete fan experience. Listeners and fans can look forward to new compositions that will be available across major streaming platforms and appear across video games, scripted audio, film, television, and more. Skybound Music also will offer special edition vinyl, behind-the-scenes content, and exclusive music-related merchandise for enthusiasts.
